In the summer of 2016 I am planning a trip to London and France. I am going with my parents, my sister, and my aunt. Right now we have not set a definitive date, but I am hoping for May as it will be cooler but not super cold and not super hot according to normal trends. People with MG do not do well in extreme conditions.
Right now I am looking into all the blogs and tips I can get about both locations. I am not new to traveling but I am new to traveling overseas. I have been out of the country but only on cruises so it will be new to fly out and stay in another country for a week.
I will actually have to master jet lag for once, really pay attention to laws and rules, and though I know French people know English I want to really be away from the Touristy areas so I need to brush up on my French. I am nowhere near as great as I use to be as I cannot ‘hear’ it as fast as I can write it and speak it but I will try to get back to it. You never know when you will need to ask a local something because they pretend NOT to know English yet you know from your high school French classes it is a requirement of learn the language of the neighboring countries (in school) around them and they bordered by 6 countries, LOL.
I also want to take a flight that will take a stop in another country for about 8 hours or so, this way I can see another country for a few hours and eat foreign food, see some sights, and take some pictures. Of course I would plan this beforehand so that it would only be 4-5 hours of playtime, giving me plenty of time to get in and out of the airport so that I do not miss my connecting flight.
I am already creating a list of all the sights I want to see! Some of them are cheesy and touristy and some of them are off the beaten path such as the restaurants. That’s the only way to get the most authentic foods and shops! I am super excited. I’m crossing off so many things off my bucket list this year coming up! I’m going to make it happen! I have to start lining up some guides…any takers? LOL!

Yes I am very excited! A million things are already running through my mind and I haven’t even gone on my trip to Pennsylvania/NJ yet which I am also excited about, LOL

awesome!! I’m sure you will have alot of fun… But I have heard that the people in France are a bit rude and would rather speak in French. That’s what my brother in law said happen when he went. I haven’t been, but just thought I’d throw that out there! Hope the weather will behave in UK when you come!! 😀

I have heard similar but I do speak some French and we will only be there a day to see it as we will be staying in London.

What an exciting trip you have planned! I haven’t been to London, but I’ve been to Paris and loved it. I didn’t have opportunity to see the rural regions, which I craved so much. But even in Paris, I found people responded however they were treated….just as most of us do anywhere in the world. I was there for eight days, and two people made me cry. But I’ve run into ruder people here at home. Plus I’m prone to being overly sensitive. 🙂
I think you’re in for a heck of a treat. I tried my best to speak my broken French…some were annoyed and would revert to English for my sake. Others were flattered that I didn’t try to force my language upon them. So I think it’s more up to individual encounters and your demeanor when you approach them. You seem so nice, I doubt you’ll have too much trouble!
P.S. I so wish I was qualified to be your guide. I wanna go! 😀

BWAHAHA well I have a dictionary of french to english and it is pocket size but has EVERYTHING in it, good and bad. It may be a bit old but it does the trick…it doesn’t have SELFIE in it but yea I can’t see myself needing to say that to someone, LOL A famous person would know English for that too, LOL

Where will you be in France? If not too far away from a border, consider taking a bus (overnight maybe?) to a neighbouring country, so you get more time at your destination and you don’t have to worry about getting to/from the airport. Although I understand that once in Europe it’s hard to resist booking flights with Ryanair 😀

Well will be going to Paris and will likely take the train. My mom is terrified of planes so no thoughts to doing that, while there. Her and my dad will be taking a cruise there and my sis, aunt, and I will fly there and meet them in London. I plan to travel more like locals than tourists, LOL.

From Paris you should considerd Amsterdam or Brussels, reachable by train or bus. If you, your sister and aunt want to fly somewhere, consider something further away (Poland, Greece and Portugal are all wonderful and have some hidden gems, and are definitely cheaper than France and the UK). Just remember that the cheaper the flight, the more likely the airport is a little far off from the city, so be prepared to take a 2-hr bus ride in the worst cases.

I will have to talk to them. We are only there a week and though this is a such a rarity for us. I do want to make sure we give our parents their time to themselves too as it is a romantic trip for them too. So maybe we can run to Amsterdam too. I’m not counting anything out right now! Well… make sure to check what flies out of Paris on your “freer” days and maybe consider your “extra country” option basing yourself on what you find. Maybe you see that on the day that you were thinking about leaving Paris for a couple of days, one destination comes particularly cheap, and you might want tochoose because of that. Check also the flights back to Paris. I would definitely advise one night somewhere else, just to get a feeling of another place.

London is a great city to visit for your first time in the isle of Great Britain – Such an inspiring and historical place, blending the old and the new almost seamlessly. I have been many times to the capital, visited and experienced many things but there is so much more to explore that I will definately visit again. Admittedly, I live in Northern England so this is a lot easier… have a good think, if you have any questions/queries just give me a shout. I have some blog posts about my adventures too, with more coming, so feel free to check them out. The city has a great transport system, but don’t let that fool you and fall into the bad habit of a city that is fast-paced. Enjoy your visit, take your time and prepare for 4 seasons of weather in one day. It can happen.
As for France, I haven’t been in a while but Paris is worth a visit if it is the only destination you can manage to get too.

Yes my parents are pretty set on the cities on which they want to go to which is fine as there is so much to see in these cities so I am fine. I just want to know all about the hidden gems in those cities as well.
